Cultural Engagement

Getting involved with the incredibly vibrant diversity of the Ohio State student population means being willing to learn about the culture of those that might have grown up with a different experience, but it also means being willing to share your own story with others.

Learning a new cultural perspective can take place where you live, where you study and take classes, within a student organization or at any of the hundreds of cultural events that occur on campus every year. These pages describe some of those important events. For more information on diversity at Ohio State, see osu.edu/diversity.

The Student Life Multicultural Center (MCC) occupies a beautiful space on the first floor of the Ohio Union lantern tower that shines a light on this space where everyone is welcome. The Multicultural Center focuses its programs and services on three themes: advocacy and visibility, education and empowerment, and support and belonging. The MCC sponsors major programs, cohort groups around shared identities, workshops on social justice topics, as well as heritage and awareness celebrations for different social identity groups throughout the year. For more information about all of the ways you can get involved, visit mcc.osu.edu.

The Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) supports a variety of cultural engagement initiatives on campus, including supporting the Frank W. Hale, Jr Black Cultural Center. The Hale Center hosts supportive programs and activities for all of the university community with an emphasis on the development and advancement of Black students. For more history and information on the Hale Center, as well as many of ODI’s other initiatives, visit odi.osu.edu.

The Office of International Affairs (OIA) advances learning and scholarship across cultures and builds respect among different peoples. OIA supports global engagement events, major campus programs like the Taste of OSU, and student organizations for students with interests in a specific nationality. To learn more about all that OIA has to offer, visit oia.osu.edu and follow @OSUGlobal on Instagram and Twitter.
