The Center for Belonging and Social Change Student Empowerment Keynote Brunch

The Center for Belonging and Social Change is excited to be hosting the Third Annual Student Empowerment Keynote Brunch on February 23, 2025 in the Ohio Union.

The CBSC keynote brunch is about YOU and our entire Buckeye community! Come as a group, come with friends or come on your own! We hope you can join us!

What is this program about?

Creating spaces that support our individual and collective well-being is sometimes easier said than done. Our friendships, classrooms, student organizations and workplaces are all influenced by our own perspectives as well as personal and communal trials and tribulations. We all bring assumptions and actions that could cause harm, or further affirmation and belonging.
Kim Brazwell’s concept of the “nine asks” lays out the practical expectations we can offer to communal engagement and explains how creating courageous spaces is the responsibility of communities, not simply individuals.
Among the nine asks are:?

  • Be honest and vulnerable? • Respect boundaries? • Offer no judgment? • Maintain confidentiality? • Respect the process of learning the right language? • Take the time to listen first.
    This keynote presentation will offer Ms. Brazwell’s explanation of these principles—supported by interactive opportunities for story-telling and practicing of new skills that support our leaving the session together feeling better equipped to create a culture that supports and empowers us all to be our best, healthiest selves.
