Hazing Prevention & Reporting

What Counts as Hazing?

  • Doing, requiring, or encouraging any act, whether or not the act is voluntarily agreed upon, in conjunction with initiation, continued membership, or participation in any group, that causes or creates a substantial risk of causing mental or physical harm or humiliation. 
  • Activities that might be considered hazing such as:
    • forced cleaning
    • running errands
    • forced interviews
    • scavenger hunts
    • mental and/or psychological abuse
    • public or private displays of humiliation
    • forced use of alcohol or drugs
    • forced eating or drinking of items
    • sleep deprivation
    • public nudity
    • forced wearing of embarrassing clothing
    • violence
    • sexual assault
    • beating
    • kicking
    • any activitity which seriously endangers the health or safety of another individual

When are you required to report?

Students are required to report any forms of hazing to the university. Faculty and staff, advisors, co-advisors, coaches, consultants, and volunteers are required to report any known or suspected hazing to both law enforcement and the university, in accordance with Collin's Law and the university. 

You are required to report suspected or known hazing as soon as possible when any of the following situation apply:

1. When Hazing is Suspected or Observed

2. When There is a Risk to Health or Safety

3. When Someone Discloses Hazing to you

4. When Hazing is Planned or Encouraged

5. When You're Unsure - Report Anyway
