Strong leadership begins with self-awareness and self-reflection. Programs focused on Personal Exploration are designed to do just that - bolster your own understanding of your strengths, your areas for growth, and the unique way you can contribute as a leader.

Self-Care Isn’t Selfish: Time and Stress Management

12:30-1:30pm

This workshop is critical for students because of the many stressors they'll be exposed to in the college learning environment. Participating students will define stress, examine examples of stressors they have or may encounter, and develop self-care and time-management strategies to address these stressors. These tools will enable them to more successfully balance new responsibilities and academic deadlines.

What’s Your Number: A Quick Introduction to the Enneagram

The Enneagram is an ancient personality typing system that is currently popping up everywhere. This session will give you an overview of the Enneagram’s nine personality types. It will shed light on your basic motivations, strengths, and weaknesses based on your number. The session will give you tools to understand how your personality drives your behavior in yourself and others and how to use the wisdom of the Enneagram to be a better leader.

Leadership Through Service

Our members of Buck-I-SERV can help you answer these questions and learn more about what it means to be an active citizen and how to be a leader through service. Self-Awareness and Your Strengths

This workshop prompts participants to practice intentional reflection and self-assessment. Participants will explore various aspects of their needs, strengths, and interests, and work in small groups virtually to discuss their results and design goals related to the reflections.

Showing Employers How You Lead

One way to stand out when applying for internships or jobs is using your resume to highlight your leadership experience. Career Coach Mark Runco will show you how to appeal to employers by highlighting ways you’ve led, whether as a member of a student organization, at work, on a team, or anywhere else. Good Trouble: Honoring John Lewis through Social Change and Political Mobilization

7-8pm

The workshop honors the life and legacy of Humanitarian and Activist, John Lewis. Participants will examine a few of Congressman Lewis' pivotal contributions to the Civil Rights movement. Students will engage in personal introspection and critical thinking activities.  They will also be given strategies on how to mobilize persons according to common interests while considering a wide spectrum of socio-economic, political, and religious identities. The session gives particular emphasis to courage, collective work, civic engagement, political responsibility, and personal accountability.  Certain testimonials from Congressman Lewis' close friends, colleagues, and mentees will be included.

Volunteering and Beyond!

6-7pm

Social justice work includes a spectrum of opportunities such as allyship, socially responsible daily behavior, and education about current events and issues. In this presentation members of Buck-I-SERV will show students how they can take steps towards become an active citizen through social justice work, including hands on service experiences like Buck-I-SERV trips. We will provide direct connections to our community to exemplify how the work of active citizens can impact social justice issues.

Leadership and Vulnerability

In this workshop, students will learn to embrace discomfort and vulnerability as strengths. College students are exposed to many opportunities to develop their leadership efficacy, through student organizations, community service, and even academic engagements like research or living-learning communities. By embracing vulnerability, students will feel empowered to be their authentic selves which will translate into better outcomes both personally and professionally.

Engaging Alumni as Mentors

“Actually, We Do Care”: Young People in Politics

Too often, people write off Millennials and Gen Z as apathetic or uninteresting in politics. From the youth movement that mobilized for Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign to the groundswell of youth voter turnout in the 2018 midterm elections, we know that this this isn’t true. Come to this workshop to learn more about why young folks should be civically engagement, and how to make a plan for your own civic engagement.
