The Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies' film series has returned! This semester, we're focusing on films about medieval Japan to align with the current course on Medieval Kyoto (MedRen 3211). With FREE PIZZA!
This month's movie will be The Tale of the Princess Kaguya on Wednesday, August 27 at 7 pm in 180 Hagerty Hall. This classic Studio Ghibli film follows a Japanese fairy-tale featuring Kaguya, a beautiful young woman coveted by five nobles. To try to avoid marrying a stranger she doesn't love, Kaguya sends her suitors on seemingly impossible tasks. But she will have to face her fate and punishment for her choices.
The rest of the films this semester include:
September 17 - Onmyoji (The Yin Yang Master) (2001)
October 22 - Rashomon (1950)
November 19 - Battle League Horumo (2009)
Movies are at 7:00 pm on Wednesday nights in 180 Hagerty Hall, followed by a brief talk and Q+A led by Associate Professor Naomi Fukumori, who teaches the course on Medieval Kyoto. Pizza and refreshments will be served.
