Pay It Forward has created a Socially Distant Service webpage in response to the current health crisis. If you are looking to volunteer consider the following, call ahead to see if they are accepting volunteers, practice social distancing, inquire about virtual volunteer roles, consider donating items or dollars instead of time.

In fulfillment of the university's mission, "education for citizenship," Ohio State students have numerous opportunities to connect with communities, engage in social justice issues, and develop skills for active citizenship. Student Activities offers a variety of programs designed to help students engage at a local, national, and global level.

  • Campus: ATI Wooster, Columbus, Lima, Mansfield, Marion, Newark

    Cornerstone of Hope, a bereavement center located in Columbus, is looking for volunteers for their grief camp, Camp Memory this summer! Camp Memory is held June 15, 16, and 17 from 8am-4pm for children ages 6-13 who have experienced the death of a loved one. Camp Memory is held at Amberleigh Pavilion in Dublin and offers the children an opportunity to explore their grief, share about their loved one, and enjoy traditional camp activities. Mandatory volunteer training is held Saturday, June 5th from 9:00am-12:00pm.

  • Campus: Columbus, Newark

    As part of the American Junior Golf Association (AJGA) tour, the Memorial Junior is an annual event in central Ohio that brings in about 75 of the best junior golfers from around the world. Many former AJGA members are now playing on the PGA and LPGA and are major winners. This year’s event will be held at Hickory Hills Golf Club (Grove City, OH) on June 7-9, 2021. In addition, a qualifier will also be held on June 6, 2021 at Champions Golf Course. We are looking for volunteers to help put on this high profile event. Our needs include: timing/water stations, registration, water rovers, tournament set up, etc. Ideally, we are looking for those with driver licenses to drive carts, but we’ll have needs if don’t have a license. Benefits of volunteering include: AJGA hat and pin, on-course beverages and lunch, opportunity to watch the next generation of golf, and a letter for community service (to meet you public service requirements).     Conveniently located near campus, we are open for volunteers Monday through Friday from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm for our daily food pantry. Volunteers welcome to work full or partial shifts. Due to the pandemic, we are currently serving our neighbors car side. Only volunteers and staff are allowed inside the building. Duties include packing dry goods boxes, receiving deliveries, stocking shelves, organizing food product, and helping load cars with food. Face masks and closed toed shoes are required during your shift at NSI. Other than that, no dress code. We are located at the address below, in a shopping plaza between Kings Pizza and Suzie Cues bar. Parking is ample in the parking lot out front. The first time you come in, ask for Chris, our food pantry coordinator. We will get you signed in, give you a brief orientation and get you started!

    YWCA Columbus' mission is to eliminate racism and empower women. As part of this mission, we aim to empower middle school girls to advocate for themselves and their communities and become the next wave of social change agents. Bright Futures is a weekly, neighborhood based after-school program focused on social justice concepts like racism and sexism. We operate out of rec-centers in the Southside and Hilltop areas.     Alicia's Closet is a nonprofit organization serving the foster care community in Franklin County and surrounding areas. We provide clothing, diapers, shoes, accessories and other essentials, at no cost to families. By supplying much needed items to children and youth in the foster care community, we hope to help create a sense of comfort and normalcy during a very difficult, uncertain time. We are looking for general volunteers to help us sort donations, pick up items, and deliver supplies to foster families. Please contact us for more information!
